Surviving Autocracy

While it’s essential to educate and mobilize the American and global public about the unprecedented threat of the Project 2025 blueprint to our pluralistic democracy and communities targeted by its attacks, it’s also critical for everyone to understand the radical change in government currently taking place and the backlash spelled out in Project 2025. America is facing an autocracy, one with features of a theocracy. Wherever you work or live, you are now being impacted.

GenDemocracy’s Preparedness and Surviving Autocracy campaign links to tools and resources to help community groups and organizations engaged in preparedness and risk assessment of how Project 2025’s proposals and rollbacks will impact their activities and the lives and well-being of their communities. This includes assessing the removal of US government funding and foreign assistance to organizations abroad. There are many steps groups can take to be better equipped.

GenDemocracy seeks out, highlights, and shares lessons on planning resistance and survival under autocracy, bringing forward lessons, strategies and tools from activists and groups in countries who are living under authoritarian rule, or have reclaimed their democracies after autocracy. We’re engaging thought and movement leaders in public conversation about strategies for resistance.
